It's always fun to celebrate getting through another work week. I really love making Saturday morning breakfasts special for our family. I know French toast isn't anything new or exotic, but I'd forgotten about this classic breakfast for awhile. French toast is one of those meals that feels fancy and indulgent, but in reality, it’s incredibly quick and easy to make. It can literally come together in just 10-15 minutes max. With just a few ingredients, you can whip up a sweet and cozy Saturday morning treat that also has the potential to be quite healthy, depending on what you use.
Here’s how I make my French toast:
Ingredients:
4 slices of Kroger's Simple Truth organic whole-grain bread (or your favorite bread)
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk or half-and-half (whichever you already have on hand, can also use almond milk or any other type of milk)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
A dash of nutmeg
Butter or coconut oil for the frying pan
Pure maple syrup for topping (It's worth a Google search to learn a bit about all of the health benefits of this sweet substance as an alternative to artificial breakfast syrup! Use it guilt free!)
Instructions:
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg until well combined.
Heat a frying pan over medium heat and melt a small amount of butter or coconut oil to coat the surface.
Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are coated.
Place the bread slices in the frying pan and cook for a few minutes on each side until golden brown.
Remove from the pan and serve warm with a generous drizzle of pure maple syrup.
This entire meal comes together in just 10-15 minutes, making it perfect for a laid-back weekend breakfast. I love serving French toast by itself or alongside other Saturday morning favorites like scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, or crispy sodium nitrate free bacon.
One of my favorite things about this dish is that it feels like a sweet treat, but when you use wholesome ingredients—like organic whole-grain bread and pure maple syrup—you can enjoy it guilt-free. It's sort of in the same genre as cinnamon rolls- in sweetness and ease of coming together- but healthier.
So, if you’re looking for a way to make your weekend mornings feel a little more special and cozy on the cheap, and quick, or even just a weekday night of breakfast for dinner, I think you should consider adding French toast to your rotation. I don't want to sound overly dramatic, but, it’s a simple joy that never fails to make breakfast time feel a little extra magical. Let me know what you think!
